The 112th birthday of Jorge Luis Borges, the famed Argentinian author known for his works that explored dreams and unreality, has been celebrated with a colourful Google Doodle.

Users visiting the search engine’s home page are met with a colourful montage appearing to show a maze of “magical realism”.
It shows an ageing man standing in front of a complex scenery including a large library, as he views labyrinths and staircases and “forking paths”.
When the illustration is clicked on it returns search results on the literary giant and poet who is credited with pioneering the science fiction genre.
He was born in Buenos Aires on August 24 1899 and during his early year he was taught at home by his parents before attending school in Geneva, Switzerland.
After returning to Argentina in 1921, Borges began publishing his poems and essays in surrealist literary journals.

Some of Google's Brazil and US Street View and Google Earth Outreach teams are currently in the Amazon, Google said in a blog post this week, where they'll be gathering images of the Amazon river, its surrounding forests and the nearby communities.
The first piece of the Amazon to get the Google Street View treatment will be a 50km section of the Rio Negro River, between the Tumbira community near Manaus to the Terra Preta community, according to Google.
Google will be employing the Street View trike – a more lightweight vehicle than the Street View car typically used to gather images of urban areas – in the Amazon, where it will be pedalled "along the narrow dirt paths of the Amazon villages and manoeuvre[d] up close to where civilization meets the rainforest", Google said. The camera will also be mounted on a boat travelling the Amazon to photograph the river itself.

This week at Yew Court I have been having a spring clean. I washed all the windows and curtains and next decided it was about time the cuddly toys had a wash too.I have a new washing machine so in they all went in like brave little soldiers.It was a nice sunny day and they soon got dry on the clothes line.It wasn't long before they were all washed and dried and looking as good as new again!

Why I Started Smoking
In this lens I want to share with you how I stopped smoking and why.It still seems incredible but it really is true that I have finally become an ex smoker and at the time of writing (8 August 2011) I have not smoked for 5 weeks.
I hate to admit it, but I had been smoking cigarettes for most of my adult life. I started smoking when I was just 13 years old. Me and two of my school friends used club together and buy cigarettes to share. I actually didn't really enjoy smoking very much and soon stopped, but then I discovered menthol cigarettes and I liked the taste of them. So I started smoking again and soon I was hooked on nicotine.
But I enjoyed smoking, it seemed a cool thing to do and I liked being a rebel and sticking two fingers up at the world!
